Iconic Loewe Collaborations Over the Years
Loewe x Howl's Moving Castle
Loewe x Suna Fujita
The SS24 precollection by Loewe unveils a delightful collaboration with Kyoto-based ceramic studio Suna Fujita, founded by artists Shohei Fujita and Chisato Yamano. This whimsical collection features a charming Mandragora character motif, drawing inspiration from the earth and miniature worlds. Suna Fujita’s art, infused with nature, imagination, and reflections on childhood memories, comes to life on ceramics like teapots, cups, and plates. The magic extends to Loewe’s iconic bags, including the Hammock, Puzzle, Flamenco, and the new Loewe Font Logo Tote, adorned with Suna Fujita’s unique characters. Adding a touch of philanthropy, Loewe pledges to donate a portion of the proceeds from every Loewe x Suna Fujita purchase to Save the Children’s Education in Emergencies program.
Loewe x Howl’s Moving Castle Collection
Launched in stores in February 2023, Loewe’s collaboration with Howl’s Moving Castle blends fashion and fantasy. For this collaboration, Loewe joins forces with the renowned Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli for the third time, bringing to life the animated fantasy of Howl’s Moving Castle. Inspired by the 2004 film, this partnership transforms the digital settings and beloved characters like Howl, Sophie, and Calcifer into vividly crafted pieces. The iconic castle itself, a collage of bits and remnants, graces Loewe’s signature bags such as the Puzzle, Flamenco, Amazona, and Hammock through print, embroidery, and leather marquetry.
Loewe x Spirited Away
Following the tremendous success of Loewe’s 2021 collection inspired by the 1988 Ghibli film My Neighbor Totoro, the Madrid-based brand kicked off 2022 with another enchanting collaboration, this time drawing inspiration from Hayao Miyazaki’s 2001 masterpiece, Spirited Away. This marks Loewe’s second collaboration with Studio Ghibli, the beloved Japanese animation studio. Spirited Away, renowned as the all-time highest-grossing film in Japan, captured hearts worldwide with its emotional depth. Loewe’s Spirited Away echoes the whimsical and spooky vibes of the film, featuring tops, Loewe bags and accessories, pants, and dresses that embrace the essence of this magical world.
Loewe x My Neighbor Totoro
In a delightful fusion of fashion and fantasy, this capsule collection brings to life the enchanting characters and fantasy landscapes from Studio Ghibli’s 1988 masterpiece My Neighbor Totoro. Released in January 2021, this marked Loewe’s first collaboration with Studio Ghibli. Loewe’s Creative Director, Jonathan Anderson, skillfully weaves the Studio Ghibli-produced narrative into the fabric of the brand’s iconic bags, accessories, and clothes using leather marquetry and intarsia techniques. The My Neighbor Totoro capsule collection not only showcases the artistry of fashion but also delves into deeper fantastical themes and whimsical undertones, exploring the magic of the environment and the value of youthful escapism in an often-frightening real world, as highlighted by Vogue.
Loewe x Joe Brainard
In a nod to artistic revival, Loewe’s menswear collection for Fall Winter 2021 breathes new life into the work of artist and writer Joe Brainard. This capsule collection is distinguished by the pansy motif, a tribute to Brainard’s 1967 Pansies collage. Showcasing Jonathan Anderson’s commitment to bringing queer culture, history, and art to the forefront of Loewe, the latest women’s precollection and men’s runway collections are now available. Initially presented as a 200-page hardbound volume titled “A Show in a Book,” these collections draw inspiration from Brainard’s iconic and genre-defying art.
Loewe x Ken Price
Released as a holiday collaboration in late 2020, the capsule collection with Loewe pays tribute to the late American artist, Ken Price. Having left a profound impact on modern and contemporary art, Ken Price, an LA legend who passed away in 2012, sees his work reimagined in this collaboration with Loewe. Renowned for his tropical-inspired sculptures, prints, and drawings, Price’s legacy is explored in this collection, delving into the significance of his artistic contributions. His influence echoes through today’s most popular and sought-after artists, evident in the vibrancy of colors and the fluid movement between forms. Considered a precursor for artists like Jeff Koons, KAWS, and even Takeshi Murakami, Ken Price’s artistic spirit lives on through this unique collaboration with Loewe, bringing forth a fusion of fashion and contemporary art.
Loewe x Paula’s Ibiza
Since the summer of 2017, Loewe and Paula’s Ibiza have joined forces annually to beautiful capsule collections. This resort line, known as the gateway to Loewe, is a celebration of island life, offering versatile pieces with handcrafted details. Returning for Paula’s Ibiza 2023, the collection features laid-back ready-to-wear items, including the iconic basket totes that Loewe fans adore.
The new Paula’s Ibiza baskets come in fresh shapes and colors, handcrafted using natural fibers like raffia and iraca palm leaf. In this latest collaboration, their signature basket bags are woven by skilled artisans in Colombia and Madagascar, showcasing the fusion of Loewe savoir-faire and generations of craft heritage. As a commitment to these communities, for every Iraca basket and Loewe Font Tote sold, Loewe will make donations towards local projects. These contributions aim to create a university scholarship program for the children of artisans in Narino, Colombia, and establish a craft training school in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
Loewe x William Morris
Launched in late 2017, the Loewe x William Morris capsule collection brings the world of foliage, forests, and animals to life — an ode to the celebrated 19th-century artist and textile designer, William Morris. With a vibe that feels like cottagecore on steroids, Loewe’s creative director, Jonathan Anderson, had special access to the Morris Co. archive, diving into a frenzy of spectacular textiles, art, and prints. Injecting a touch of British punk aesthetic, the collection draws inspiration from Morris’s nature-inspired masterpieces, specifically the Strawberry Thief, Forest, Acanthus, and Honeysuckle, created between 1874 and 1883. Beyond clothing, various accessories, including animal-shaped bags and small leather goods, have also undergone the William Morris makeover.
